The vote on February 6th allowed us to move into a new phase of ministry as a district consisting of two states - Minnesota and Iowa. There are over 220 MIBC churches in Minnesota and Iowa today. Our website can connect you to these churches as well as give you information about both the movement and movement leaders. Whether you are exploring the MIBC or are a member of an MIBC church, our website is designed to help you find the information and resources for which you are looking.

The login section opens up a world of resources and connectivity to our pastors and church leaders.

Thanks for checking out church planting in the Minnesota Baptist Conference!

We call ourselves Team Minnesota and seek to support, encourage, and resource church planters and church plants throughout Minnesota. Perhaps you're familiar with the quote that church planting is considered the most effective means of evangelism under heaven. When qualified and called planters are equipped, coached, prayed for, and encouraged, amazing things happen.

The primary way that Team Minnesota plants new churches is through a parenting model...a church, or group of churches gives birth to a new daughter church. Here's what church planter and church consultant Ed Stetzer has said regarding new churches, "Both churches and denominations are discovering that it is almost always better for the health of new church plants to come from involved mother churches, rather than from denominational leadership."

Take some time and do a little surfing through our church planting web pages. Below you'll find some links you might find helpful. Perhaps church planting is something God has in store for you. If you feel the need to "kick the tires" of church planting in Minnesota, please contact us with your questions and for more information.

Blessings!

The character and values of the Minnesota Iowa Baptist Conference may best be understood by: Our churches are multi-generation but are growing through their attractiveness to young families. Our theology is biblically conservative but without edginess and suspiciousness of fundamentalism. We are diverse in the distinctive expressions of God’s work in our world, with congregations that are teaching-centered, grace-based, spirit-filled, seeker sensitive, purpose driven and those that are oriented to justice and reconciliation.

Stated more formally:
The Conference is a fellowship of churches whose theology is biblically evangelical; whose character is multi-ethnic; whose spirit is positive and affirmative; whose purpose is to fulfill the Great Commission through evangelism, discipleship and church planting; and whose people celebrate openness and freedom in the context of Christ’s lordship. The Minnesota Iowa Baptist Conference is a dynamic network of over 230 churches. Our immigrant Swedish roots give us a foundation of nearly 150 years of ministry in the Midwest. Yet our evangelical passion, biblical theology and contemporary worship styles have made our churches an attractive option for families looking for something solid, yet something exciting.

Our outreach is to those who have no church home. Many in Minnesota and Iowa are disillusioned with religion. They have felt the sting of legalism with its impossible demands. Some have seen hypocrisy. Others have had no religious background and therefore see Christianity as irrelevant. The missing element has been healthy relationships with mature believers in Jesus. Our outreach is to those who have no church home. Many in Minnesota and Iowa are disillusioned with religion. Heritage is designed to help churches provide consistent and caring bridges to its older members who are no longer able to attend church on a regular basis because of health or physical constraints. Often times these people are very lonely and sometimes even feel forgotten by their church. "Bridges", is a simple strategy that involves willing people from the church in simple, but meaningful tasks like sending cards, making visits, providing rides, bringing occasional meals, and doing short term light house keeping for these shut ins. "Parish Nursing", A few of our churches have begun this specialized care ministry, others have it on the "drawing board". Soon the MBC will be providing workshops and/or resource people to aid churches in this process.

The origins of the Minnesota Baptist Conference are in Sweden in the mid-19th century. A strong movement of Bible reading in homes began to change people's lives away from the religious nominalism of the day. Many of these lasare, or readers, immigrated to the U.S. to avoid the persecution they were receiving from the state church. Once here, these devout and visionary leaders began to organize churches in Waconia, Houston and Chisago Lakes, Minnesota. Their movement thrived and soon there were significant numbers of Swedish Baptist churches in settlements across Minnesota.

When immigration slowed, the church growth also slowed. However, after WWII, this declining, mostly Swedish group reinvented itself and became one of the fastest growing evangelical groups in America.

Today, the Minnesota Baptist Conference churches set the pace of growth in the Baptist General Conference and among evangelicals in Minnesota.

Christ's Church
Believing Christ's strategy for glorifying God among the nations is a growing movement of vital, reproducing churches - churches that reproduce vital disciples, leaders and congregations.

Movement Leaders
Believing reproducing vital leaders is at the heart of Christ's master plan for reproducing vital churches.

Radical Dependence
Believing Christ builds his church by means of disciples who trust in the power of God's
Word, God's Spirit and God's delight in prevailing prayer.

Loving Interdependence
Believing Christ's glory is desplayed and his cause advanced when disciples, leaders and churches serve him together in loving unity.

Cultural Synergy
Believing that a multi-cultural movement of churches and leaders is essential to fulfilling Christ's desire for his church - a worshipping community redeemed and reconciled from all nations.

Our Mission Statement
As a fellowship of churches, we covenant to do together what we cannot do alone in reaching people for Christ in our State.

Our Biblical Mandate
Minnesota is our mission field in the Minnesota Baptist Conference. The Great Commission in Acts 1:8 compels us to not only reach our Jerusalem (our local communities) and the uttermost parts of the earth (foreign missions), but to strategize together how to reach the region of our Judea (Minnesota) and peoples within our region who are culturally separated from us (our Samarias).

Our Values Statement
The Minnesota Baptist Conference is a family of churches with a rich heritage, rooted in a strong evangelical theology. Together we seek to explore a vision for missions in our State which is responsive to God and geared to the times. We seek to be inclusive, cooperative and encouraging in all that we do.

Our Strategy Statement
The mandate of this organization is therefore a missions mandate to the State of Minnesota: To plant and revitalize our churches with a purpose of making disciples To serve our churches to enhance their ministry effectiveness To provide a ministry of excellence in camping and retreats in order to evangelize and build-up individuals, families and churches To operate as a link for pastors and their families toward greater personal and professional satisfaction and productivity

As a part of our ministry placement, we strongly encourage those who are interested in serving a church in the Minnesota Baptist Church, to participate in the Ministry Placement Network (MPN). This is an online tool for those seeking placement. It provides a profile and assessment of your calling, gifts, skills, personality, beliefs, experience, and more. This is the tool that we then use, along with a resume, Strength Finders assessment and other pertinent information you send us, to make an initial introduction on your behalf with churches we feel where there might be compatibility. The cost for this tool is $120.-which can be tax-deductible as a job search cost. We feel that the cost is well worth the benefits of participating in the MPN. A couple of these benefits are: Your MPN report is a complete and comprehensive profile and assessment of your ministry skills and giftedness. When we send your information to churches, an MPN report puts you on equal footing with others who have an MPN report. You “own” your report. You can send copies to other churches or denominations you wish to contact. The MPN report is a valuable supplement to your resume, statement of faith, and other documents you might already have. Through involvement with MPN, your report is exposed to ours and other denominations and churches in different geographical areas based upon the preferences and parameters you determine. Registration in MPN is done through our office. When we receive your payment, we assign you a serial number which gives you access to the online tool. After receiving your number you can go directly to http://gompn.com/mpn/index.htm Throughout the process, we offer you support and help. Can you be a part of our placement service without participating in MPN? Yes. However, we strongly encourage participation because we feel it adds tremendous value to your ministry journey and assists both us and the local church to determine who God has for them. If you would like to participate in MPN, or have additional questions, please contact Mandy Johnson here at the Minnesota Baptist Conference. Her email is mjohnson@mbcworld.org or call at 651.633.0560.

In 1993, a group of Minnesota Baptist Conference pastors and laymen established Staff of the Pastor Foundation. It was born out of the need for confidential help for pastors and their families who found themselves dealing with emotional, relational and mental-health issues.

There was a recognizable need for financial help to pay for appropriate counsel. There was also a need for information and recommendation of services available.

Often, however, the overriding issue was one of confidentiality. For many pastors and their families it seemed safer to struggle alone than to ask for help and risk criticism and loss of trust, friends and ministry.

Staff of the pastor has been carefully structuctured to provide:a comfortable first contact for helprecommended optionsfinancial assistance when neededconfidentiality before, during and after any counseling program

ORDINATION OF PASTORS IN THE MBC - Ordination

In Baptist policy, it is the local church that actually does the ordination of pastors. When an individual pastor desires to begin the ordination process they first contact their church board to ask if the church is willing to do so. A Baptist church may ordain a pastor on their own, if they wish, but that ordination is then a local church ordination. If the pastor wishes to have an ordination that is endorsed by the Baptist General Conference and then receive a BGC certificate of ordination, the next step is for the church to contact the MBC office and ask for information about the process.

The MBC staff will send out all the information necessary for the candidate to prepare three documents: 1) Conversion and Call to Ministry, 2) Philosophy of Ministry, 3) Statement of Faith. When these are completed and sent to the MBC office a "Ministerial Guidance Committee" will be called together to study and consider these documents with the candidate. This committee is formed by two representatives from Bethel Seminary, and two MBC pastors. When this committee is satisfied, a letter is sent to the church saying that they believe the candidate is ready to have an Ordination Council called by the church to examine the candidate for ordination.

The church then sets a date for the council to meet and invites all MBC churches in the area and any other nearby evangelical church that they desire, to send their pastor and up to two lay leaders to form the council. On approval of this council the church is given permission to hold the ordination service.
